Belly Binding

Now that I'm nearing the end of my pregnancy, I've started to think a lot about post-pregnancy questions. My mom has always mentioned needing to wear a girdle after giving birth. She taught us that it helps to suck it all in and shrink your belly faster. I asked my doula about it and she said that she had heard about it but hadn't actually 'wrapped' anyone postpartum. Alexis, the doula, does a closing of the bones ritual in which she uses a scarf (roboso) to cinch in my rib cage and displaced organs so that they are better directed where they need to head on back to. Now I'm just trying to figure out what type of semi-permanent girdle I want to wear for the first 6 weeks. Here are some different cultural options I found (sorry the pictures are so small):

Malaysians- use a bengkung, Japanese- wear a sarashi, Polynesians- use cloth or ACE bandages to wrap (so I've heard)

Does anyone have any experience with post-partum belly wraps? I really want to hear what you think or if you've used them, what your preference is. They seem to make sense, especially the more I read about them. You can read more here about belly binding. I know that Kourtney Kardashian used the Belly Bandit, that's similar to just a girdle... Maybe I should just blindly follow her and get one of those. The Kardashians are pretty smart.

  2. I tried kind of a corset thing with my second baby. I didn't notice much difference from the first. However, it did give me more confidence going out in public.

You are a lean, mean exercising machine so I'm sure you'll whip right back into shape. Just try to be patient with yourself.
