Pee no evil!

Wild Man! In front of the Ivins' waterfall at the cookout.

Monroe, if you could be naked all day everyday- you would! You are such a sweet boy... with so much energy and creativity. Our friends, Simon and Kate, came for a visit from England. We had a dinner over at the Ivins' home in Bountiful. It was beautiful summer night and this is how we spent it.

the gents'

ma' ladies
Beautiful time, thanks Jay family!

On a side note- Monroe, you make us laugh so hard. A few of the things that make us smile and laugh are:

• Your cute cousins taught you the correct terminology for the female anatomy (thanks Dr. Dan) which you have now warped to vajunkie
• When we sit down for family dinner you tell me, "Thank you for making these mommy." Melt my heart!
• You like talking to Lottie, and call her Lod most of the time.
• You love swimming in the "swimming cool"

Eight Toothy Months

Monroe turned eight months this last Friday. We've been traveling (I'll post some pix later) so I didn't get a chance to say happy eight months Monty! He has four teeth now, on the verge of six, and this last week he practiced using them on my arm.
At first I thought it was cute but by the sixth bite... shame on me.

We love our little beaver/shark/monster teeth and all!

P.S. But, if anyone has any suggestions though I'll gladly take them!

Happy Half Year

We celebrated his half birthday, courtesy of Tia Trish, in St. George.
I'm sure Monroe can't wait for a sister so that I making him look like a girl.

Happy Half Birthday Monroe! I can't believe you've been a part of our family
for that long (and that I haven't been working in an office for half a year already!).

I do believe!

Source: chloelocks.tumblr.com via Lisa on Pinterest

I almost don't want to write this because I'm not sure I believe it (I also don't want the universe to hear me and reverse this magnificent event). I was starting to think that Monroe had developed insomnia. These last couple weeks he'd been waking up every 2-3 hours. But last night a miracle occurred... he slept through the night. Say what? It's the night I had been dreaming about since the day he was born. A full night's rest!

But it wasn't that simple. He slept wonderfully but I on the other hand was awake all but 2 hours. I was excited (is this really happening?), nervous (is he breathing? I better go check), an absence (he doesn't need me as much anymore), and engorged (when did I develop two stone pin cushions on my chest?). All in all, it was exciting, but I'm a bit skeptical to see it happen two nights in a row. We'll find out I guess.

P.S. I think Monroe ate some magic growing beans yesterday because this morning I felt his first tooth (bottom right)!

4 Monty Months

Cheeks and wrinkles, doesn't get much squishier than this.

Lately I've been talking to Kirk about how amazing it is the growth that takes places in our first year of life. Mentally & physically we undergo amazing changes and adaptations. Monroe has inspired me to push myself and try to take amazing strides. It's pretty easy to get comfortable and allow ourselves to wade in shallow waters. Maybe if I try hard enough I can do something physically amazing in a year as well, like fly!

Three's Company

During the last few weeks it's been Monroe, myself and Bernina who have been staying busy here at home. The one down part to having a winter baby in a cold area is that you have to spend a lot of time indoors. Let me tell you a bit about the Bernina I inherited. It was built in 1961 and was my Grandma Williams'. She has upgraded a few times since she purchased her Bernina and no longer wanted it. When I saw it, I told her that Bernina would have a safe home with me. I took her in to get tuned and $50 later she's running as good as new.

The quilt I had mentioned earlier was my first big project that I used the Bernina on, and it was amazing. Although she's about 30 pounds (and she is as Lisie says about bigger women, 'large and practical') she worked wonders and I sewed this together in less than 6 hours.

Although the purpose of this quilt was to get Monroe to enjoy tummy time more, it didn't do the trick when I tried it out today. Even with a mirror, crunchy leaves and pom poms. Oh well, at least it's pretty! We'll keep working on it.

Mt. Baldy

We know Monroe looked bald anyways, but surprisingly look how much hair we cut (it's the photo in the middle).

We had a bright parenting moment... or so we thought. Monroe was starting to get some old Chinese man whiskers on the top of his head and so we thought, "Let's even it out." We used Kirk's facial electric shaver and man oh man, did it shave. We felt so bad after the first strip was cut but we couldn't leave him looking a fool so we carried on. I don't think it was our proudest parenting moment but Monroe sure is a good sport. In our family prayer tonight I asked for him to please forgive us for the haircut we gave him. I hope he understood!

Shots...

A little over a week ago, little Monroe had to get his first immunization shots. It wasn't as traumatic as I thought it'd be and he took it pretty well (considering this is the baby that slept through his circumcision). His doctor gives these cute little sheets with each visit and drew a picture of Monroe. I thought it was pretty cute. His measurements say he's about average in all the areas, but *ahem* as proud parents we think he's more than average!

These are his 3 little Garfield bandages that he had to wear. When the doctor checked his 'area' to make sure the circumcision had healed properly, Monroe let out a sharp scream. Kirk informed the doctor that Monroe doesn't like it when other men touch his willy. The doctor answered, "Thanks for giving me a complex." haha
