Family Secret #1
My post today is dedicated to my Grandma Ruiz, my Mama Olivia.
The highlight of my day happened because of a superstitious Salvadoran remedy.
Isn't she the cutest little Spanish grandma ever?
PSHHHHH! That is the magic pooping word for babies. Who knew? This weekend we spent a glorious Memorial Day in St. George with my family. Monroe has been having trouble with his #2's and so this weekend my mom would hold him under his thighs and dangle him between her knees and repeat, "Pshhh, pshhh, pshhh..." He'd turn bright red and do his business.
Today Kirk was asking me, "What was your mom doing this weekend with those washing machine noises?". I explained and Kirk didn't believe it. I turned to Monroe and started saying "Pshh...". That's all it took for his face to turn bright red and prove his grandma right.
Family Secret #1 Revealed:
Whisper "pshhh" to a constipated baby and chances are you'll give him some relief.
P.S. For adult relief, hit your knees while on the throne. I've had friends swear this works, haha.

Familia
This past weekend was really wonderful. My mom came and visited from Las Vegas. She had her one on one time with Monroe (Kirk and I got two date nights). She is so sweet to Monroe. Any little grunt of discomfort he makes, she immediately jumps up and starts to entertain him. She calls him 'papa' and if he's ever sad she soothes him by saying, "Aye no papa! Que pasa papa?". It's so cute.
Also Monroe has a new little cousin. Remi gave birth to Rylee on Saturday May 14th. She is tiny (well 7 lb 12 oz) and so sweet! Remi used hypnobabies and had a healthy baby girl 2 hours after getting to the hospital. Go Remi! We are so excited to get to know our new little niece.

Alpargata Shoes
Yes, my son really is that pale and yes he really is my kin.
This last time we were down in Las Vegas, my sister and I decided it'd be fun to make some house slippers. She loves her Tom's. We decided to look up where the original design for Tom's came from. They are called alpargata's and mainly found in Argentina. We made her some adult sized alpargata's and thought, "How cute would these be for babies?". We made some for Monroe and I just loved them (plus they were pretty painless).
The first pair I made out of canvas and used felt for the sole (which is the picture up above). But then I found a wool felt fabric that I loved and made some more. They were a little too snug for Monroe because wool doesn't give as much so now I have a baby shower gift. We made a pattern for my sisters' pair that we scaled down for a baby.
Here's the pattern and instructions if you want to make them:

Let me know if something doesn't make sense.
I obviously think they do but that doesn't mean anything.

Why are parents so mean...?
My friend Hilary showed me this blog that lists the ugliest baby names you could ever imagine. Can you guess where these names emerge from? None other than Rexburg, Idaho. I LOVE Idaho but I think they need to have some type of rules for naming children (some of these are just mean). My favorite one was last year's Crymson Rayne... yes horrible but true. I feel bad for when that poor girl hits her crymson rayne stage in life. Click here to see this year's names.

Bump It
The snail fabric is from Heather Ross's Far Far Away line. It is from the same line as the froggy curtains.
Yay, Monroe is finally at the age that it's safe to have a bumper. My friend Sarah gifted this bumper to Monroe. I chose out the fabrics and her mama, Kim, made it. I love it and I think Monroe's head does too. He's started to get a bit crazy at night, so it's nice to have some padding for that noggin.
Thanks Kim!
